How we distribute the funds once they are raised
Funds are distributed in a three-manner approach:
- 70% of the proceeds are given to the charity selected by the CSC Board of Directors
- 20% is given to the Coastal Community Foundation which holds CSC's endowment.
- 10% is given to the operating fund for CSC. This money is used to purchase supplies for our weekly volunteer projects as well as pay for our operating expenses.
Endowment
CSC created an endowment fund with the Coastal Community Foundation, Inc. for the following purposes:
- to further CSC's charitable mission as a volunteer organization that supports locals charities by raising funds and promoting volunteerism while encouraging fellowship and camaraderie among its members and friends
- to provide a permanent, endowed base solely to support CSC's grant making and not its operations
- to provide funds for special grant making and charitable gifts over and above the gifts provided through its fundraising events
- to introduce and involve its members in pro-active, focused grant making that will result in significant, positive change.
By contributing 20% of the proceeds of the many events held over the past decade, CSC membership was able to reach its goal of obtaining a fund balance of $100,000 in 2005. At that time, CSC was very pleased to be able to grant nearly $4,000 to two local charities selected with the help of the Coastal Community Foundation.
